Wines, castles & conquest

The Rother Wine Triangle is a captivating blend of history, heritage, and outstanding English wine. Amid scenic vineyard views and atmospheric castles, you can explore a landscape shaped by conquest and craftsmanship. William the Conqueror’s victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 reshaped England’s culture and landscape, he later founded Battle Abbey on the battle site. Nearby, medieval Rye Castle (Ypres Tower) once defended the port and Bodiam Castle, built during the Hundred Years’ War, remains one of England’s most enchanting moated castles. Together, these historic landmarks and local winemakers blend medieval intrigue with modern, innovative English winemaking offering a memorable journey through past and present.
