Birchden Vineyards is a 23–acre family–run vineyard and farm nestled in the beautiful countryside of Groombridge, on the Sussex and Kent border near Tunbridge Wells. What began as a passion project has grown into a thriving vineyard with community at its heart, producing elegant small batch wines while creating a welcoming destination for visitors to relax, connect and enjoy the beauty of the estate.
Today, guests can explore the vines through guided tours and tastings, enjoy vineyard picnics among the lakes and wildflowers, or visit the Blackbird Café and Tasting Den for seasonal food, coffee and wine. Alongside the growing events programme, which includes workshops, pop–up markets and food experiences, Birchden Vineyards also host private celebrations across beautiful and rustic–chic event spaces around the land.

At the heart of Birchden Vineyards is a passion for winemaking. The vines are carefully nurtured throughout the year by the Vineyard Vixens – a dozen local women with serious credentials – to produce elegant, cool–climate wines.
Named after the wildlife that shares the estate, each wine tells a story of the vineyard and the seasons that shaped it. The current collection includes the aromatic Gregarious Goose Bacchus, the delicate Foxy Vixen Rosé Pinot Noir, the beautifully balanced Ugly Duckling Chardonnay and traditional–method sparkling wines, Charmed Finch Blanc de Noirs and Classic Cuvée.
The Blackbird Café and Tasting Den is the welcoming heart of Birchden Vineyards, where the friendly staff go above and beyond to make you feel at home. Open six days a week, it offers visitors the chance to relax and enjoy seasonal food, freshly brewed coffee, homemade cakes and, of course, a glass or tasting flight of the wines on offer.
Guests can choose from brunch, lunch, charcuterie boards, cream teas and seasonal chef specials, all served in a relaxed countryside setting. Families, walkers, cyclists and dogs are always welcome, making it the perfect stop whether visiting for an hour or an afternoon.

Bookable in advance online, the tour and tasting experience takes you to the heart of the vineyards and the story of Birchden Vineyards. Guests are expertly guided, tasting the wines as they go and hearing the stories behind each bottle.
You can also arrive by steam train from Tunbridge Wells, as the Spa Valley Railway stops at Groombridge station, and from there you can walk though the fields to Birchden Vineyards, arriving for your vineyard tour in style.
One of Birchden Vineyards’ most popular experiences is its vineyard picnic, available five days a week from Tuesday to Saturday, all year round.
Guests collect a carefully prepared hamper, full of locally sourced treats, and settle into one of several picturesque spots among the vines, lakes and wildflower meadows. Combined with a bottle of chilled wine and beautiful countryside views, it provides a wonderfully relaxed and special way to spend the afternoon.
The experience can be enjoyed all year round as there are covered, fireside spaces in which to cosy up together on chillier days. Advance booking is essential.

Across the estate, biodiversity is encouraged through wildflower planting, bee hives, wildlife habitats and careful stewardship of the lakes, woodland and vineyard landscape. More than 48 species of birds have been recorded on the land, alongside a rich variety of pollinators and native wildlife.
The Vineyard Vixens also play a key role in caring for the vines throughout the seasons, helping the vineyard farm responsibly while maintaining the beauty of the land for future generations.
